If somebody has a crash whilst riding a motorbike, does their insurer (or all insurance companies, for that matter) blame the rider regardless of who’s fault it was?
No, a motorcyclist is not automatically blamed for an accident. I t-boned a car when it made a left-hand turn in front of me. My bike was totaled and the guy’s auto insurance bought me a new bike.

In a theoretical sense yes. Filing a claim, regardless of who’s at fault does hurt your relationship with the insurance company.

Nope. Not unless the rider was unlicensed, uninsured, drunk or drugged. It’s not automatically your fault just because you are a biker. On the other hand, most motorcycle accidents happen when the rider fails to negotiate a curve–often while drunk. Most multi-vehicle accidents are cage drivers fault for turning left in front of the biker. Bike riders hardly ever crash from going too fast in a straight line.

I would like to immediately say No, It really depends on your situation..and most of the times which insurance company is better prepared.

No.
If I was blamed for my accident, then the insurance company of the woman who totaled my bike wouldn’t have paid. She was so at fault that they wanted to give me a check within 48 hours.

Depending on where you hail from there is a thing called no fault insurance. In this case there is no assignment of blame. your company takes care of you without the need for you to pursue the other party’s company, a primitive arrangement at best. Do not accept payment from the other party’s company until you consult with a lawyer. Try posting in a legal advice section for details.

Be aware of what’s happening, it’s not always the Insurance company you have to watch out for.

No, you are not automatically at fault. Insurers assign liability based on the facts including witness statements. Police lay charges and assign blame but insurers can apportion liability. You may not have been charged but the insurer may determine that you bear part of the responsibility.
